MUSCULOSKELETAL ANATOMY & BREATHING PHYSIOLOGY

for Yoga Teachers.

Yoga is not just about the body! It is about going beyond the body to discover our true self, the place where the mind becomes silent. However the very subject of yoga and the very quest for the true self is an attribute of the physical body. The body is the mean through which we experience this reality in all of its manifestations and through which our sensory awareness gathers information from the whole universe. In this view the body becomes our starting point and the discovery of how the body is constructed and functions becomes a constant reference point in relation to which we can explore even the deeper and subtler dimensions of yoga. The aim of this Course is to provide the basic and fundamental anatomical knowledge of the musculoskeletal system and the physiology of breathing and how their integrated functioning mechanisms express themselves in key yoga asana. This material is meant as a musculoskeletal anatomy study guide for students training to become Yoga Teachers.

LLB. Msc., Bsc(Ost), Anatomy and Physiology Teacher, Registered Osteopath and Yoga Teacher

Paola Ceccarelli

Paola is an experienced osteopath whose approach to better musculoskeletal health blends elements of osteopathy, medical acupuncture, yoga, complex homeopathy, psychosomatic bodywork and nutrition. Paola qualified from the British School of Osteopathy, as well as completing postgraduate diploma in Classical Osteopathy and attending postgraduate trainings in cranial osteopathy with the Sutherland College. Her approach draws from structural, cranial and visceral techniques and incorporates elements from her yoga practice, and her trainings in medical acupuncture and Bioregulatory medicine, which is an approach that incorporates complex homeopathy, psychosomatic bodywork, nutrition and acupuncture and homeopathic biopuncture to re-balance the inner regulatory ability of our bodies. She holds an MSc in Global health and Social Epidemiology from the London School of Economics where she focused on health and behavioral policy and the nutrition transition and their impact on population health. Paola has also been practicing Yoga for over 15 years and has been teaching since 2001 after training with Yoga arts in Byron Bay, Australia. Her osteopathic approach is aimed at restoring function by looking at anatomy and physiology in a functional dynamic way: how we move everyday , how we feel, we eat , how we practice yoga, walk, or sit, or we hold our bags, how we hold our hearts and minds …all matters for our health.
